Frequently asked questions
What is PromptPay?
PromptPay is Thailand’s national instant payment system. Bank accounts are linked to a mobile number, a national ID or tax ID number, or an e-Wallet ID, and anyone can pay you by scanning your PromptPay QR code with any Thai banking app. It’s how most shops, freelancers and landlords in Thailand get paid.
Can foreigners use PromptPay?
If you have a Thai bank account, your bank can usually link PromptPay to your Thai mobile number. Once it’s registered, enter that number here to create your QR code. Ask your bank if you’re not sure it’s set up.
Is it safe to create a PromptPay QR code here?
Yes. The QR code is generated entirely in your browser; we never send or store your phone number, ID number or amount. A PromptPay QR code can only be used to pay money into your account. Nobody can use it to take money out.
What name will the payer see?
Their banking app always shows the name of the account holder linked to PromptPay before they confirm. Any name you type on the card is only a caption; it isn’t part of the QR code.
Should I put a fixed amount in the QR code?
If you always receive the same amount, such as a membership fee, a fixed amount is convenient and prevents mistakes. For a counter QR code where the total changes every time, leave it blank and payers enter the amount themselves.
Why does it say my ID number is invalid?
The last digit of a Thai ID or tax ID is a check digit, so a typo or swapped digits won’t pass. Compare it with the card again. We check this so you don’t print a wrong QR code. Before using any new QR code for real, scan it and send yourself a small test payment.
