Frequently asked questions

What is baht text (BAHTTEXT)?

It’s a money amount written out in Thai words, like writing “one hundred dollars” on a cheque. In Thailand, cheques, receipts, tax invoices, quotations and contracts usually show the amount both in numbers and in Thai words, which makes the figure harder to alter. Excel has a built-in BAHTTEXT function for this, and the tool follows the same rules.

Do I need to read Thai to use it?

No. Type the number and copy the result. For example, 100 becomes หนึ่งร้อยบาทถ้วน and 100.25 becomes หนึ่งร้อยบาทยี่สิบห้าสตางค์. Whole amounts end in ถ้วน (“exactly”); amounts with satang (1/100 baht) end in the satang instead.

How are amounts with more than two decimal places rounded?

We round to 2 decimal places, half up: 0.005 becomes 1 satang and 0.995 becomes one baht exactly. If your documents use a different rounding rule, round the number yourself before typing it in.

How large an amount can it handle?

Up to 36 digits. Thai counts in groups of six digits and repeats ล้าน (million), so 1,000,000,000,000 is หนึ่งล้านล้าน (“a million million”). Negative amounts get the prefix ลบ (minus).

Is it a replacement for Excel’s BAHTTEXT?

Yes. The output follows the same rules as BAHTTEXT and works on any device, including your phone, without opening Excel. Your numbers never leave your device.
