Frequently asked questions

What is OCR and what can I use it for?

OCR (optical character recognition) turns text in an image into text you can edit. Use it to copy text from scanned letters, receipts, screenshots or photos of documents into Word, email or a chat app.

Which languages does it read?

Thai and English, including documents that mix both. The first time you use it, the browser downloads the language data and keeps it for next time.

Are my documents uploaded?

No. OCR runs entirely in your browser and your files are never sent to any server, so it’s fine for private documents like ID copies and payslips.

What is a searchable PDF?

A PDF that looks exactly like the original scan but has an invisible text layer, so you can search it with Ctrl+F and select and copy text.

Why are some words recognized incorrectly?

Blurry, tilted or dim images and handwriting are harder to read. Take photos straight on in good light, or run them through our “Scan to PDF” tool first to sharpen them. You can process up to 50 pages at a time.
