What is a HEIC file, and why won’t it open?
HEIC is the format iPhones use to save space. Windows, many websites and plenty of apps still can’t open it. Converting to JPG makes your photos work everywhere: email, documents and online application forms.
Does converting HEIC to JPG reduce quality?
At 90% quality or higher the difference is practically invisible, and the pixel dimensions stay the same. Very high-resolution photos may be scaled down slightly on iPhone or iPad because of browser memory limits. Choose PNG for no quality loss at all, but expect much larger files.
Are my photos uploaded to a server?
No. Conversion happens entirely in your browser, so your personal photos stay on your device, and it works fine on a slow connection.
Can I convert HEIC on my iPhone or Android phone?
Yes. Open this page in Safari or Chrome and select your photos. For large batches, a computer is faster.
How do I stop my iPhone from taking HEIC photos?
Go to Settings > Camera > Formats and choose Most Compatible. Your iPhone will then save photos as JPG, but they take up about twice as much space.
